More Drill Pictures

This group is so neat. All 4 of these horses are rescue horses and feedlot buys. They do fantastic. It's their first year back in drill and less than 30 days performing. They're drill team name is Cowgirl Spirit!

Chris and Ginger look so good together. It's been almost a year since he's been riding. He loves the drill team and likes competing.

Zena is such a joy. I've had her for almost 2 years now and I love every bit of it!!!

Pony Power

We spent mother's day at the barn letting the boys ride the pony Roman. Roman is a 1/2 curly bashkir and 1/2 mini cross. So sweet He turns 3 next month. We've let the boys take turns be led on him and they love it. Aidan loves showing off his little Charro Saddle anyway!!!

Buzz & Indy

Our horses have the pleasure to be next to some hilarious horses. My favorites are Buzz and Indy. They look like they could be brothers, although they are not related. Once you get to know them, they are loving horses and always whinny when we pull up. Indy has this weird little bony knob on the right side of his chin. His owner claims it's a handle! :)

Drill Team Exhibition

We had our first drill team show this weekend. It was for a 4-H halftime demonstration. There were 3 teams; Cowgirl Spirit, Reining Rookies, and Reining Rowdies. For our first halftime performance, I don't think we did too bad. It's pretty exciting when you're loping in between other riders. I guess this is the beginning of competition season.

Sophie the cowgirl

It's been some time since I mentioned some of my students (have I yet?). Sophie is by far one of my favorites. She's such a little firecracker. She helps me clean out my paddock, and trust me, there are not many kids who are willing to help pick up horse poop!!

Kitty in Crisis

So, there's always something going on at the barn, here's the scoop from last week with a barn cat named Smokey. Smokey went into labor last Saturday. Throughout the weekend we watched her because last summer she had sustained a sizeable hip injury. Sunday night she was looking pretty pathetic and not responsive so she was taken to Tricia’s house for a little TLC. Monday she went to a vet appointment, and was told to wait and see if she’d progress more into labor within the next 24 hours. Tuesday, Smokey started to lose her kittens. Nathalie, Chris and Tricia rushed her to have an emergency C-section on Wednesday morning. None of the 5 kittens survived. The vet stated that if she hadn’t have been brought in, Smokey wouldn’t have made it either. It took a while for Smokey to start to awaken from surgery, I thought Nathalie and I would cry from relief. We immediately made plans to hand her over to Leah for a nice environment to recover in. Thursday and Friday she was at the vets getting fluid pumped into her, making sure that her bladder was responsive and that she was eating and drinking. It is unlikely that she will ever be able to be a barn cat again. This week has been so stressful for her little body. I was sick for two days, it was such an unfortunate situation.

Zena is healed

Okay, so she healed after 4 days, it's been a busy 2 weeks.

Enlarged Muscle

Zena plled a muscle today in her chest. What's weird about it, is after ridin her with her girth strap, it pushed all the swelling to one side so she had a depression and then a lump. I need to keep an eye on it to see how it goes.

Soccer Started :)

We had our first game today for Recreation Coed soccer. I guess I didn't suck as bad as I thought. We won 4-3. Chris did a great job in goal. I did hit the ball at least once. Wasn't the best, but hey at least I didn't fall!!! :)

Weddings are not for the faint of heart!

A friend from soccer got married yesterday. Her sister just so happened to be a bridesmaid in the wedding. During the ceremony, she started to wobble, then went down. Luckily, Katie was there to help ease her down. The wedding went down without a hitch and the ceremony was still very beautiful.
